Oh I am fed up of being pregnant! It's wonderful and life affirming and all that and I do want baby to be fully cooked, but to fast forward to the birth would be marvellous. Well, slightly after the birth ideally. The will-we-both-make-it??!!!! fear is weighing more frequently and I am just soooooo uncomfortable.
Also, I'd like to meet my daughter, I'm getting impatient for that too. I know the time will fly and I must enjoy the last weeks I will ever be pregnant, as well as enjoying the time to snooze and potter round the house. But...
Heartburn is now constant. Walking is the only thing that relieves it and the old pelvis makes that impossible. Pelvis was v sore today, quite probably due to walking further yesterday.
Cough is more frequent. Relieved by inhaler. Not sure how good that is for baby, I am assured it is ok.
General pain from tiny limbs battling for space with ribs etc is getting more or less constant, and urinary frequency is more like urinary perpetuity. The upside of that is that there is never a risk of leakage as emptying will always have just happened. Sigh. So glamorous.
September is nearly here. I have been looking to September since January. We are so very close. I can do it. I don't need to panic.
It is scary.
NB: these thoughts are triggered by some indications that baby may be ready to appear. Nothing concrete such as a show or waters breaking, but niggly things that make me think, hmm. Things that didn't happen with the twins. Loose bowels, backache, leaky nipples, excessive tightening... Could it be? Probably not, but I'm noting it for posterity.
This is a vague record of my second pregnancy and being a mother to three children. It is nothing more, if you're not interested in pregnancy and parenting then this will make for extremely boring reading fodder.

Welcome to trimester 3
Today I am 27 weeks pregnant, or into week 28. 27 is the magic number that means the start of trimester 3, but I'm not sure if it's week 27 or after 27 weeks. Whatever, I'm there now.
Baby just kicked to celebrate, which was clearly down to reading what I wrote and not to do with the bowl of Alpen I'm currently digesting.
So. Trimester 3, I can look forward to:
Insomnia
Discomfort
Heartburn
Difficulty walking far
Excessive tiredness
Getting very large in the abdominal area.
Much like trimester 2 then!
Although I am better equipped to deal with it all now, what with crutches, lack of work and what not. The summer holidays have now started so at least the school run is removed for now.
I guess now is the time to start making lists, sorry, organising what we actually need. There's a lot to come from other people, things we lent and other things they had that they think we'd like. But we need to get it here and in situ. And we need to prepare the house somewhat, and get mattresses and the likes.
Lists, lists, lists.

Sloth
I spent the entire day doing nothing today. 8-9 am I was involved in getting the boys ready for school. Back to bed until 12.30, then got up, had lunch, stared at the TV and did the school run via Lidl.
Lidl is my new favourite shop, you can park at the door.
Despite, or perhaps due to, lack of movement, the 200 yard walk from car to school was almost beyond me. Slow doesn't begin to describe it and I had to stop and take a deep breath to get past an ouchie moment more than once.
It occurred to me today: I can't carry a thing when walking with crutches. How's that going to work? I do curse the fact that we live on the second floor, although probably not as much as I am thankful that we are all on one level. When I'm in, I'm in.
Other than the PGP, all is well. No mad twitchy legs, indigestion is manageable, baby moves lots and is clearly growing well. Inactivity does sit well with me, and it's so much more likely that I'll eat healthy non stomach upsetting food when I have to make it at home. I clearly need to carve myself an at home career.
Did I ever promise interesting posts? No, I did not.

Week 23 update
I've kind of gone off on a factual sharing thing of late. I'm not sure why, I guess I'm harbouring a desire to write a pregnancy book. Harbouring? Yeah, right. It has a name and a contents page.
Anyway.
Tomorrow I shall be 23 weeks pregnant and onto week 24. According to my adjusted dates the following timeline applies:
Weeks till due date
Weeks till intended delivery: 15
Weeks since discovery of pregnancy: 18
Weeks since first scan: 11
Weeks since anomaly scan: 2
Weeks till third trimester: 4
Weeks till I finish: 5 (!!!!!!!!!!!)
Weeks till maternity leave starts as opposed to regular leave: 7
Weeks till return to work: 56
We also have to add in a couple of less inspiring target dates - there are 4 weeks until the summer holidays, and worse, there are 10 weeks until they go back to school and need waddled up and down each day. There are also 10 weeks left until I hand in the so far unwritten dissertation. Oh yikes.
And onto symptoms. There aren't that many at the moment.
Fatigue.
This is not the all consuming must-sleep-now fatigue of the first trimester, it is more a feeling of being worn out. Yesterday I walked the children to school and then onto work, walked home from work and lay down for two hours. I then ate some lunch and walked back to the school, home again and then did some homely things, dishwasher, washing machine, dinner for everyone. And then I was done in. Absolutely.
Digestive icks
Nausea has mostly gone. Sense of smell is still hyper and there's a queasiness on encountering a smelly person - smoker, overperfumed person or unwashed person, consumer of too spicy food - or icky smells. Not nausea though, that has been replaced by indigestion. Stomach capacity is much reduced and I get full easily. Hunger is still immense and I'm still off a lot of foods and into hugely fattening sweet things. Bloatedness has gone and the whole system is sluggish rather than stopped.
Physical signs
The huge belly that wriggles and changes shape on occasion
The breasts that don't look like breasts any more but that thankfully are less sensitive.
Other than this, the rest of me hasn't expanded. I'm much the same shape as before, ankles and what not remain their usual size, bum hasn't taken over any countries.
of course, not forgetting...
Pain
For me, the PGP is the worst. At best it is niggly, at worst it is seriously agony. Walking is difficult bending over is impossible. I have pain in my lower back and where my pelvis meets at the front. The front pain was almost too much walking to work this morning, it seems to be getting worse. Not being able to take painkillers is hard.
Headaches are common
Abdomen generally aches
Emotional signs
Supergrumpiness.
Total intolerance
Short temper
Tendency to burst into tears
Fears
Premature delivery
Stillbirth
Own death during childbirth
Childbirth complications
And that, I think pretty much sums up me at nearly 24 weeks.

Gender predicting
Well, for future reference, the old wives tales that apply to me and my having of a girl are as follows:
I have a high up bump.
I have a sweet tooth.
The old wives tales that (incorrectly) have me with a boy are:
My wedding ring suspended on a thread spins in circles
I haven't put on weight other than the bump
I'm not covered in spots nor do I have lank hair.
Her heartbeat is less than 140.
The Chinese gender chart says I am to have a boy also.
So, one can safely say it's all a load of bull.
My own genius observations are based on last time/this time so could be simply the difference between twins/a singleton.
I haven't gone off the same things. I have gone off coffee a bit, last time I didn't. Last time I went off Coke, this time I am drinking pepsi max to excess. I am able to eat but don't really want to much.
My belly is probably hairier than last time so that can't be attributed to testosterone or twins.
Um. I'm crazy for sweets, last time it was cheese.
I feel relatively human, unlike last time at any stage, but I am way sorer than I was last time.
Talking of which: a moan. My back is killing me and the things I can't do include:
Lie down
Walk
Sit
So standing it is. I am seeing a physio tomorrow so I expect a miracle cure to be produced in the form of a support/pillow/painkillers that don't hurt bubs.
Ha.
We have pretty much decided on what bay will be called, it is the name O would have had if he had been a girl and which is universally acknowledged as a Nice Name. Except by chav person of no taste whatsoever but I take that as a good thing. There's lots of songs about this name, I like that, and I own a lot of them, which I like even more. Although, if I was choosing a name entirely based on a song, she'd be Victoria. Hubby says (facetiously) that she'd be Lola if we're doing (Kinks) songs but I'd be forever stuck on "walks like a woman, talks like a man, that's my Lola", and I don't think I'd be able go introduce her without going "L-o-l-a Lola". No offence to Lola, it's a perfectly lovely name if you like the Kinks less than I do.
Baby may not end up with this name, but she kind of IS it now. The boys were calling her Sarah, but I've gone off that. Although everyone has said "nah, not Sarah" which kind of makes me want it again. But assuming I shall not be hormonal and vile forever more, I shall repress that thought process...

Watching, waiting, anticipating
Well, it's practically here. The biggie. The scan where they check everything is present and correct and aligned and as should be, and as an incidental bonus to make it more exciting and less scary, they can hopefully reveal THE GENDER.
In 15 hours I shall (hopefully) know. Boy or girl. Will I have another adorable little boy or will I have the daughter I have always imagined?
My bump has gone mad. It's huge, and my bellybutton is out of sight, pointing downwards. I assume it will reappear as the bump grows some more, but it's a bit eek. And I am well and truly out of non maternity clothes, elasticated waists even are tight and uncomfortable. Boo. I weighed myself and I am 9lb heavier than I was at the start of the year. Which is ok for 20 weeks I reckon. I'm about 3 dress sizes bigger; when I was 3 dress sizes bigger I was a good couple of stones more than today. Admittedly that was a bit more evenly spread, I'm me with a fat tummy and giant boobs. Although I do seem to have an unsightly double chin as well, which is horrid. Really, I don't see why we have to be quite so repulsively unattractive during pregnancy. Voluminous body, spotty skin, lumbering movements, continuous all over body hair and stretchmarks. It's delightful. Not to mention being uber grumpy and constantly fatigued, or the inability to pay attention. In addition I seem to have had a sense of humour bypass. I am the least appealing version of me since, well, last time I was pregnant.
Pregnant women who say they feel gorgeous and, worse, men who say they find pregnant women attractive?? LIARS. All of them.
Baby is veh veh active, I am being distinctly booted regularly. Doesn't stop me listening to the heartbeat several times a day though. Obviously. Wriggly little squirmy baby she is, I had better not be kept in the dark as to whether she is a boy.
To do: watch The Apprentice, go to bed, attempt to sleep, take chiddlers to school, go to work for an hour, leave work, go to maternity hospital, collect notes then HAVE SCAN. Spend rest of the day excitedly looking at blue/pink things.
I can't imagine blue.
When I was pregnant with the twins, I said, repeatedly, that I hoped for one of each, that two girls would also be nice and that I hoped against hope it wasn't two boys. When they did the scan they easily identified R's bits, but twin 2 wasnt playing. It took ages and I was thinking, that's the girl, fully expecting the sonographer to say eventually "that one's a girl". When she said "I'm seeing another set of dangly bits" I was instantly delighted and thrilled by the idea of two boys. Pink was rubbished, the Barbie section was vetoed in relief. True story. So if I am in raptures tomorrow at the idea of my third son, it's not fakery.
Last chance to say I think she is a girl though :-)

Begone intolerable nuisances
Oh I am so intolerant. I can't be bothered with anything trivial or picky or wrong and especially can't be doing with stupidity.
Grumpy grumpy grumpy. Everything has the potential to annoy me. Even the baby, if I can't find her or she's being faint hearted (ba boom).
Really I could do with a cigarette to chill me out. I'm not going to have one however, I couldn't maintain the smugness over others if I did. And there's the risk thing, plus one would lead to a craving for another. I'm not craving one just now, they smell icky off other people, it could potentially help the psychotic grumpiness.
I might try something innocuous. Like, erm, melon. Or maybe not. Ideas on stress relief for people who aren't allowed any known stress relievers another time. When I'm less ratty.
Maybe October.
Symptoms not really notable today. Soreness when moving, excessive thirst, very expanded waistline and a headache. That's about it.
The waistline is a pain, I am neither normal clothed nor maternity sized. Even my fat clothes are too small, but only on the waist, I may add. I am restricted to large sized elastic waists (leggings mostly) and one pair of adjustable maternity linen trousers. Fashion guru I am not.
Naturally, this makes me very cross. Most things do...

Blobby
I made an observation tonight. From the neck up and from the knee down, I am as normal. All that lies in between is pregnant and actively involved in so being. With the exception, perhaps, of my arms.
I fail to see why the entire body needs to limber up for birth/post natal requirements in advance. Baby is not viable for another 5 or 6 weeks, and only just then, so why am I all poised for action? While the relaxed ligaments have provided blessed relief from whiplash pain, the ones elsewhere are not doing their job. It hurts to move, basically, unless done verrrry slowly and carefully. That's unnecessary relaxation for all except the ones actually attached to the uterus, they admittedly are under duress. But slow duress, they don't need to cry out in sudden shock periodically. Which they do.
Although my mango sized baby has to take some of the blame herself, as well as causing it all, endless nashing about doesn't really HELP. I had rather painful somethings earlier and so whipped out the not-really-a-Doppler to check on the old galloping heartbeat of junior. Fleeting moments of heartbeat as baby flurried from womb end to womb start and back and again and again. Possibly causing turbulence and "ooch!" pains. Which have now gone, presumably baby is tired and snoozing.
I did wonder the other day why it is that they sleep so little in utero and so much after birth, then it dawned on me that it's probably a touch more exhausting being out than in. Breathing and feeding and keeping warm and all that may just possibly use energy.
Nothing much happened today, no.

Many things
More buggy hunting. Today I was offered a used mamas and papas all terrain buggy complete with footmuff etc, which is ace (and very kind) but rather massive. So marvellous for any trips to beaches and general walking, not so good for taking in the car. As this is offered gratis, that frees up funds for a lightweight buggy.
Enter the Quinny Senzz. I think that's how you spell it? Solves the ooh-the-Quinny-Zapp-is-ace-and-small-but-a-bit-difficult-yet-the-Zapp-extra-folds-separate-from-the-seat issue by being almost as compact but folding intact. And it has a decent shopping basket. And it comes in burgundy, which is important (but as it has a pink lining does somewhat depend on the baby being female).
So that's today's decision. Plenty time to change my mind again; I have a currently private wish list that I update almost daily with the latest buggy choice.
Today's pregnancy related excitement was to find baby located up beside my belly button. Baby is a very wrigglesome baby indeed, she (unspecific means female - or something) stays in one position for no more than 30 seconds. That may be due to the hard machine prodding it of course. That didn't bother R though, he was chilled and relaxed through each scan. O was a very very wriggly foetus!
I seriously hope baby allows a peek at what gender s/he is, I simply can't wait until the birth. They nearly didn't find out with O at the 20 week scan as he wouldn't stay still. Urg.
Symptom of the moment: backache. I cannot lie on my back, it is veh veh painful. I know this is normal much later on in pregnancy but I'm not sure why now. Tummy lying is out, it just all feels a bit squashed, and lying on my right makes me feel queasy. Happy days. Or nights to be precise, sleep is tricky. I tried a pillow between the legs but that did seem to aggravate the problem last night.
It's ok until I try to lie down. Which makes sleeping easier. Usually.
Assuming it works out with my employer, I plan to take maternity leave as soon as I am entitled to at 29 weeks. I seriously don't think I can handle working, being pregnant and juggling childcare through the summer holidays. Admittedly this creates a problem for next summer if/when I go back, but I will need to have "proper" childcare in place, and I won't be pregnant then.
So, if all tallies with leave and whatnot, I have two months left to work.
That's still ages, even coming off early. And I'll have the joyous third trimester with two 5 year olds at home all day...
On second thoughts I may work through the holidays and sign the boys up for every playscheme going. Maternity leave can start when they go back. Which is the way to sanity??

18 weeks!
Oh it's slow... Still, tomorrow morning my doppler should arrive and I can have a whole new game of paranoia/frustration. And I will be 18 weeks, I'm not there for a few minutes yet.
With regards to the doppler, it is likely I will be able to work it, due to not actually being an idiot, and I'll hear baby's heartbeat. Which would be exciting, I'm not convinced yet by the maybe kicks. It's still possible my digestion is getting more bubbly/poppy/fluttersome as time goes by.
I am insanely tired. As nobody is interested in taking my bloods I may well be anaemic.
I resent the lack of 16 week appointment - can you tell?
I equally well am probably fine, they did check my bloods at almost 13 weeks and I assume all was well as they haven't said otherwise. Sleep is not great at the moment, awffy uncomfortable. As such I am a bit apprehensive about the third trimester and the definite lack of comfort and sleep that ensues.
I might buy some Floradix stuff, I don't eat a lot of iron rich food at all. Calcium is sorted, I consume vast amounts of milk. I eat plenty enough fruit, but I'm not great on meat or iron rich other-things.
Are chick peas high in iron? Avocados? Hmm.
Other things that happened today: Prince William got married and a friend had a baby girl named Charlotte.

Avocados? Hmm.

Gestating away quietly
Nothing much. Bump is huge and tense and way higher than it should be, assuming there's a correct place for it to be. It's a bit uncomfortable but nothing majorly concerning, just the odd twinge of a stretching ligament here and there. Fast movement is simply not going to happen, and sleep is limited, left sided and with strategically placed pillows. Boobs are painful, still, they're on a mission.
To Mars, I think.
I am still very tired (presumably mostly attributable to the nightly discomfort that doesn't resemble sleep) but generally feel mostly human. No more nausea and appetite is pretty normal, although I do get fuller quicker. Foetal movements seem to be on the increase, but are still not definitively foetal.
I will continue to write foetal by the way, even if virtually all have moved toward fetal.
Autocorrect wants to change fetal to feral. It's happy with foetal. This pleases me.
Tonight baby wants Chinese for tea. Who am I to deny my youngest child?

Bumpy
Well, there's not a lot to say. I am 16, going on 17 (weeks) and aside from the ENORMOUS bump there's not much going on. The foetal acrobats haven't escalated enough so may just be general rumblings after all. And in the absence of a 16 week antenatal appointment, I have nothing in the way of reassurance and so am paranoid. I quite want to make an appointment with the midwife just to hear the heartbeat.
I have twice had a Doppler in my
amazon basket but have not yet actually bought one. I think I'd go mad, so I tell myself that it's only 4 weeks tomorrow till the anomaly scan, that the acrobatics will be discernibly foetal any day and that I would surely notice if anything was to go wrong.
And the bump continues to grow, as I have been told, it has increased greatly over the last two weeks while the schools were off.
Yes, I know, it isn't Easter yet, Fife are bonkers.
As I now look unarguably pregnant, I have a discussion about some aspect of pregnancy with every single mother I meet. Which is ok to a certain extent, I am rather obsessed, but just once it would be nice to not talk about it for a moment. Even the lollipop lady dismissed my inane observations about the weather in favour of asking about my next scan.
I am embarrassed by the ginormity of my stomach, it is assumed by all that I am much further on than I am. So I say that I am due in September. Well, it is 1 October I am due and while I am sure baby would hang on till she (positive thinking) is fully cooked, which will not be by 1 October, if I do get a caesarean it will be prior to that date, ie sometime in September. So it's not a lie really. If they think "September" means early September, well that's their mistake. Ahem.
It's still embarrassing, I need to get me a new coat. It's not that big really, I'm not all bump by a long way, nor does it stick out or rise high, but it sure is a bump and everybody seems compelled to comment. Sigh.
To self: a growing bump indicates a growing foetus. Remember this.
Symptoms at present are limited to what I assume is round ligament pain (niggly ache from down low to each side, worsened by movement. Not that painful, but there and escalating) and a very persistent headache. I also have blocked ears as a result of the last sinus assault but that isn't actually a pregnancy symptom, just what happens with consecutive untreated colds.
The need for sweets and doughnuts has passed (ish), I am now going wild for fruit and don't fancy stodgy food. No more sausages for breakfast, melon is the choice of the week.

Endless worry
The paranoia's back.
There is no reason for this.
I just don't feel very pregnant. Well, apart from the still-mental breasts and the slight nausea and the massive tummy. Oh, and the bleeding gums and nose.
I'm not sure what I need. Weekly scans? Regular midwife heartbeat checks? Definite kicks?
I need to keep in my head the image of a very healthy foetus jumping around through my first scan. And remind myself of my conviction of twins/missed miscarriage before. It's all in my head. I know it is. But reassurance would be nice, and I don't get that without a hypochondriac attack for another 5 weeks. That comes with the apprehension of what-will-they-find???!!! for the anomaly scan. And the minor niggle of having NO boys names. It could well be a boy. I don't know, my intuition is well off this pregnancy. I do think the foetus looked like a girl on the scan, but I'm not au fait with the facial differences between male and female foetuses.
I have sinusitis. I feel miserable.

Snot 3: the revenge of the Snot
I'm in the process of getting another cold. Today I have progressed through "my nose is a bit runny", through "I seem to be sneezing a bit", past "ok, my nose is running a lot" and onto "I feel like death". Goodie goodie gum drops, another cold without the drugs to see me through.
We have been on our caravanning holibags to Wales, which was very chilled what with having nothing particular to do. So I'm a lot less worked up about everything and have done a lot of sleeping.
This last week took me from 14 to 15 weeks and so was week 15. Its odd, I feel relatively normal, except I have an icky taste in my mouth and feel a little bit nauseous now and then. My appetite is minimal and I get full very quickly, so I'm eating a lot less. Which is just as well as I may not feel very pregnant but I sure look pregnant. Or not, it looks like fat in a pregnant shape and is all confined to my abdomen. But it looks lardy, not fecund. Maternity clothes essential so as to look more pregnant and less lardy, but most are vast. I don't currently fit into clothes a size up from normal - because the wide part is right on my waistline.
I'm not sure why I have a waisthigh bump. It's way too high. She scanned me there as my excessively full bladder was pushing it up, but that is most certainly not the case with my permanently elevated bump, bladder is never full these days.
Baby is currently around 10cm long. That's not exactly big. I continue to feel flurries of something. Having been away from the bath all week I haven't had the bathtime flurries, but there were distinct somethings when I drove over very bumpy roads. My bowels don't do that. I look forward to definite kicks as a reassurance of there being a baby in there.
Nothing now till 20 weeks and 5 days, which is the day of the anomaly scan. Thats AGES. Not even a midwife BP check. This doesn't rest too well with feeling not that pregnant. I guess looking increasingly pregnant will have to do as reassurance for now. Definite movements are imminent also.
Well done me for not buying a Doppler. I honestly think that is the way of madness, but it would be nice to hear a heartbeat.
I wonder if the midwife would send me packing if I went along for a checkup anyway????
At the 20 week scan I find out the flavour, I can't wait for that. If they can't tell, I'll be paying for a private scan to find out, there is NO WAY I'm waiting till the birth.
Today I am 15 weeks. And onwards to week 16...

A long and endless wait
Oh, this is the tedious bit.
I don't feel better, I feel super tired super grumpy, and while I feel nauseous less often, I feel much more so when I do, sometimes actually spewing.
So that's a lie. Pfft to the second semester wellness. I had to take yesterday off and spend it in bed just to function. Yippee.
I continue to have a bloated stomach of slowed down bowels and doughnuts/toast/sweets (only put on 4lb??) so it's a bit hard to tell if I'm showing for real. I sure look pregnant, but it's not real. Even if it's mighty weird - periodically my whole abdomen goes really tight. I know you can experience Braxton Hicks from early on but I would have expected that to be restricted to the uterus, which is currently lost in there somewhere.
I may look up what Braxton Hicks actually are. I don't remember that from before, but I was so obviously pregnant and very very miserable I possibly didn't notice. And that was my halcyonic first pregnancy in an unbattered uterus.
I have a permanent sour taste in my mouth. It's not nice.
The wait bit alluded to: it's 7 weeks today before anything happens. That's two weeks less than it's been since I found out I was pregnant. Which was aeons ago. That's when the anomaly scan is and until then I see noone unless hypochondria or something real and bad happens. Wah. And between now and then I have to shape my dissertation into something for a 15 minute presentation. Which is my idea of HELL and as I shall be over 19 weeks by then (it's the same week as the scan) I will be looking distinctly fecund.
I hope to feel lovely reassuring movement soon. I feel little bubbles of movement but they might well be non foetal. I want positive foetal kicking please.
I am not buying a Doppler. I'd go proper mad. Although I'm not sure listening for a heartbeat with my son's toy stethoscope qualifies me as sane.

Worse!!???!!
Well, today, at 13+3 weeks pregnant, we have a peak of the nausea. Building up all day to a crescendo of actual vomit at teatime. The joys!
I feel positively dreadful. And very tired. And very very sick.
Today's worry: it's something more ominous than morning sickness. Which it almost certainly isn't, it's a lot like morning sickness just worse.
I felt better for about half a day. Yuk yuk yuk.
I am predicting a day in bed to be required tomorrow. Oh I hurt. Oh I feel sick. Oh oh oh.
Poor me. I do hope this is still a positive sign for baby.

Snippets
Soooooooooo tired.
Sooooooooo sicky.
Boobs sooooooooo sore.
Head soooooooo achy, as is neck a bit today - not fair.
It's meant to get better after 10 weeks. This is not better.
Good news: uterus is present and palpable. Woo. Growth continues, bad news less likely.
4 sleeps. 4!! That's like nearly none. It's really soon. No more weeks, it's just "on Friday" now. 3 more days at work. 4 sleeps, or going to bed-ings anyway.
And then it'll be x weeks till any tests and about 7 weeks till the anomaly scan, so that's up to 7 weeks of worry about abnormalities.
But this week we are worrying about the existence of any babies.

This week!
Well, since ever I found out I was pregnant, or to be more precise, since ever I started feeling pregnant - tired, sick, intolerant - I have found going to work a chore. It just occurred to me as I was having the Sunday evening blues, that as I wish away this week till Friday, this Friday is scan day! The days I wish away anyway will be gone and I'll be there.
And I pretty much won't have to work on Friday as the scan will take most of the morning - I work 9.30 till 12.30 and the scan is at 9.45 for 2 hours. So I shall pop in after, update the necessaries and show off my scan picture of my healthy singleton, and leave again after half an hour or so. Huzzah for paid antenatal appointments.
I incidentally won't be going to work after if it's a swift scan with bad news, I'll be having a meltdown. I may also be having a breakdown if it's multiples.
I'm not sure what I'll think about after Friday. I guess I'll have results to worry about, then possibly further tests, plus general worry and complaining. I don't recall ever letting up the worry or the complaining when I was pregnant.
The worry goes:
trimester one: don't bleed, don't miscarry;
trimester two: don't just die, don't be broken, please keep kicking me;
trimester three: keep up that kicking now, come out safely, don't be broken, don't die, don't kill me either.
The complaining goes:
trimester one: I feel sick, I'm tired, I hurt, I can't sleep, ooh my breasts hurt;
Trimester two: I still feel sick, I'm still tired, I still hurt, I'm not blooming, I still can't sleep;
Trimester three: I have chronic indigestion and the stomach capacity of a mouse, breathing isn't so easy, everything is too much effort, I'm still very tired, I haven't slept in weeks, I can't lie on my back or front or right side, actually everything hurts, I've been pregnant forever, I want it to be over.
Yeah, I guess there's lots to say, even if it is a tad repetitive.
I am currently in the bath - wooo! still novel after 21 months unable to. I tend to have a bath at the same time of day most nights, and each bath I can feel a distinct flurry of something going on. I don't know if it's baby moving or not, but it's both reassuring and nice. I may be deriving comfort from some wind but it sure feels like tiny foetal acrobatics. It doesn't happen any other time other than in the bath and I remember the bath was the best time for movements with the boys. So here's hoping. Here's not hoping the fact that I can feel it means it's twins. The existing twins have bickered and wound each other up all day today and the thought of another twosome just does not appeal!
5 sleeps.

6 sleeps!
Less than a week to go till scan, I can cope. And then they will tell me if all is well and single, or not. And I will know. Then nothing will change, I'll just know; it isn't an end point, it's just a stage.
Well, it hopefully isn't an end point anyway.
I can't feel my uterus. This doesn't mean it's not above the pubic line, it means I can't feel it. I don't think it's up high though, which means probably not twins. I do however feel little flutterings that could be movement which is very early and would be indicative of twins. And there is the fact that my bowels etc are currently located at the top of my ribs or thereabouts so that suggests a reshuffle is going on. Which it will be. But I can't tell what's there and what isn't usually there.
Symptoms remain sort of peaking. I have been exhausted today and spent most of it lying down, interspersed with nausea and the need to eat, along with the requisite hourly visits to the toilet. Boobs look nothing like themselves, as yesterday's changes remain.
So it doesn't look like anything's wearing off anyway. That's good, even if it makes me feel diabolical.
Next necessary purchases: nightwear and underwear. Both causing discomfort, and I've not started the grand expansion yet. Yikes. There are benefits to having your firstborn: no children to look after and a nice unscathed body with no scarring to be irritated by waistbands.
Just a moaning aside.

11 weeks
And so we begin week 12...
Symptoms: today I have felt particularly nauseous, which I did hope to be easing a bit. Not so today, smells were bad and I actually thought I was going to throw up at one point. Boobs have gone mad, muchos sensitive today and the colour has changed and spread. They are covered in the little tiny bumps called Montgomery Tubercles which look like mould. Lovely stuff.
I had my midwife booking in visit today at the house. All fairly uneventful, but I did discover:
Forth Park (the maternity hospital) now do Nuchal Fold screening as standard. Which checks the fold of skin at the back of the neck; if thickened it can be indicative of Downs. They also do the blood test for Downs/Spina Bifida at the initial scan. So any risk should show up early and hey, what fun to have new worries. No. That's not the point. The point is to have more invasive but conclusive tests if a high risk is present.
This is where I get a bit twitchy about being "over 35". Only just over 35, I think my Downs risk is about 1 in 400. As my husband rightly pointed out, if I had 400 babies 1 would have Downs.
The other thing I discovered was that if I don't want a VBAC and really want another Caesarean, they will do what I want. That doesn't mean they won't heavily lean on me to change my mind but it is reassuring to have the final say.
7 sleeps now.
