Day two, hospital

Well, I'm still here in the hospital. I don't feel brilliant, my bp is really high without the medication and I feel a bit ick when I've taken the medication. I seem to need to take two types in combination. They're still working out the dose so I'll be here till at least tomorrow, then I'll hopefully be able to get home and come back once a day as an outpatient.

Spoke to doc this morning and he said that if I was 36 or better 37 weeks then he would be inclined just to deliver baby, but 35 weeks - which is what I am today - is just a little early. I don't think they're going to go past 37 weeks so I've only got 2 weeks or so to go unless my bp stabilises brilliantly, which is unlikely. If it doesn't stabilise at all they may deliver sooner, but baby is better off in just now and they will only deliver if I am significantly less well with her in. She would be fine born now, but better the longer she stays.

He also says they're happy to sterilise me while they're doing the section, but I have to be sure. I'm sure! Nobody has remotely queried the fact that I am to have a section so I feel a lot better about that decision. She doesn't actually seem to be breech today but I'm due a scan on Friday to confirm. Even with a section they prefer to know the lie of the baby.

Didn't sleep much through the night with monitoring and feeling guff, but I spent a good hour or three asleep this morning. Quite enjoying peace and quiet and having food brought to my bed, and I don't really feel well enough to be bored. I have my phone and my kindle, but I'd like my three boys here. The wee boys got a bit bored last night which made the big boy have to take them home after half an hour. I've discovered they are allowed in 2-8, not 3-4 and 7-8 like other visitors, and now I'm in a private room they can hopefully draw and let hubby stay a bit longer.

Baby isn't really co-operating when they try and do a trace of her heartbeat. She moves away from the pad, just like O did! He caused undue headaches during traces when I was at this stage with the boys, and his little sister is exactly the same. I now envisage her to be going to be exactly like he was as a baby. R was such a much easier baby, I was sort of hoping for another chilled baby. O is a delightful and more considerate child, so it's not a bad thing, plus we know what actually settled him so we know what to try.

She may not be like O on the outside, just because she's a wriggler. O will be delighted if she is though. Bless. She may be different from either twin, of course. Time will tell.

Blinded by the screen (please)

Oh my. As my mind is made up that I want a caesarean section, and my overactive imagination/madness/heart rate monitoring has baby distinctively not head down - whatever the midwife says - I pondered as to how they get a baby out in a section if it's not head down. As I am now at the watch-all-birth-programmes-incessantly stage of pregnancy, I've seen footage of a fair few c-sections, which go as follows:

Cut through outer mother then inner uterus etc and tear membrane. Allow waters to gush out. Grab baby's head and tug until entire baby comes out. Stand by with sucker to clear airways. Snip cord, make sure baby is breathing and something a lot closer to pink than blue.

So, if head isn't first, which I actually have no reason whatsoever to presume (other than it would be useful for argument's sake if baby wasn't cephalic on Friday), what happens?

I did a silly thing to find out. I asked the Internet and found icky YouTube footage of caesarean delivery of transverse lying babies.

Yuk.

Most of the procedure is as above, except the bit where they ease the head out. If there isn't a head there, the surgeon appears to plunge his hand in, rummage around until he finds some part of baby, then tugs on that. Often the head will then be last out, and the baby is invariably more blue when this happens. It does not look nice, thank heavens for the screen that stops visibility to the mother - and father who is forbidden and unwilling to be at the action end.

I console myself that a) obstetricians tend to know what they're doing, b) both twins were breech so were probably head last, there was two sets of limbs etc to be tugged upon, and they were fine and c) there is no reason to think that baby isn't head first.

People do always say that c-sections feel like someone washing dishes inside you, so I guess there's always an element of rummaging. I so don't want to see it happening to me, it does not ever look reassuring. The commentary from the anaesthetist is far nicer.

Incidentally, the babies that come our the conventional route don't look any healthier or less blue and the mum looks considerably less healthy. I have not been put off.

I was asked today if I was hoping baby'd come early and naturally and I said no. But if she did, and it was quick, and therefore successful, then yes I do. What I don't want is an unsuccessful labour.

Baby's a go go this evening!! Whatever position she was in she sure isn't in it any more!

Calm and clear

Baby has been most calm today, which naturally makes me panic. There have been usual stirrings as per text book non-hyper foetuses, and her heartbeat is as normal. 32-34 beats in 15 seconds, which is what it has been since ever I first counted. So no real need to panic, but I do.

I am extraordinarily tired today, I actually slept most of last night - aside from being woken up for snorting which nearly resulted in a broken leg of husband - and still flaked out for another couple of hours during the day. It is marvellous to be able to have that time, school does occupy the children effectively and longly. I am acutely aware of the time I won't have once baby arrives, so I am well and truly relishing maternity leave as it should be.

Although I do have a fair bit to do around the house, but a potter here and a potter there is getting me there. The BHF are collecting the old telly, a dressing table and chair (currently occupying the space where the cot will go) on Tuesday and hopefully I can foist some books upon them as well. At some point between now and baby being about 2/3 months old, we ideally need to rehome the gigantic tv unit so we can accommodate a dining table and playpen in the living room. And at some point early next year we shall do the moving house thing.

Pelvis sore again as I had to walk a fair distance to the school from the car as I was a little late to the school. I do need to arrive super sharp so as to get close. I didn't take the crutches as they slow me down and that was probably an error. Sitting down for a while on my magic cushion has helped as usual though, all is not lost. A quiet day required tomorrow though.

Sizing up baby

Having been constantly reminded since about conception that I am "large" (usual grump: twins, lardiness etc), I do wonder, not for the first time, if this is a jumbo baby. The midwife agreed that she is clearly a "good size baby" but didn't hazard a guess as to how good. Going on my 3 weeks ahead estimate (ginormous baby rather than advanced baby) that would make her currently around 6lb as opposed to the 4.75lb she should be at this stage, and if delivered at 39 weeks that would make her 8.5lb or so. Based on average baby sizes anyway.

The twins were delivered at 38+6 weeks, and were 7lb 1 and 6lb 2. I've mentioned this already, I'm not sure if the "twins are small" concept stems from the "twins come early" assumption. On average, twins are born at 37 weeks, not 40, and are, on average, smaller than singleton babies.

Whatever, I'm assuming at 39 weeks that baby will be bigger than the twins, which may or may not be inaccurate. She sure feels big, the enormous bump on my front is all baby. Wherever you feel, there's a bit of wriggling baby there.

She's still legs (all 9 of them) forward, I'm doing a spontaneous belly dance most of the time and there's many jabbing reminders of her being alive and kicking. I can't pretend that it's not fabulous, even if it does hurt sometimes. I was treated to a belly boogie when I woke up this morning, no time to worry.

One of the nicest mums from school is pregnant, her baby is due in January and so will be in the same school year as my baby, although probably not the same class. I'm well chuffed, both for her and for me. A new-baby buddy!

Back to back to school

Midwife visit was, as expected, uneventful. All is well. Urine clear, BP normal, no swelling or ickiness. 33 weeks and swell.

Baby is lying with her back to my back, so her limbs are forward. The midwife fathomed this by the number of knobbly parts she could feel. This would account for the apparent increase in movements, I will see and feel all limb movements at the front, the ones at the back I wouldn't see or feel. With her legs and arms nicely to the rear, I'd get bottom and occasional elbow moves. Now I am getting ouchie kicks and punches.

I have the cold. Not happy, colds without cold medication are not fun and this is this pregnancy's fourth cold. Bah. That's what happens when other halves fly on planes and breathe a plane load of germs. Still, I've been germ free since April, I should be grateful for that.

New school year started today, boys are now in p2. Just another day at school, as compared the the first day of p1! They were all "I don't want to go" yesterday but they were up and ready and excited to go extra early this morning. A good day was had by all, not least by me doing very very little. That can't last, there's much to be done, but it was nice.

Back on the radar

Holiday was lovely, except we were sufficiently remote to have no phone signal at all never mind Internet. Caravans are a good cheap way to get away but minuscule living would get wearing very quickly. I keep pricing up Center Parcs but it is sooo much more expensive than caravans (unless we go in January which I am up for, noone else is). So that was our babymoon, happy time spent chilling and bobbing around the pool and a quite lovely day yesterday at a farm which was mostly a giant outdoor play farm, with animals (mostly goats) as well as grass sledging, bouncy pillows, trikes etc. Investigation reveals a similar set up at a fruit farm (rather than animals) about twenty minutes away. Further investigations (ie going there) required to establish greatness but that could prove to be a favourite place.

Baby has been active, particularly today. Bath time now, and she's going mad! I'm not sure what constitutes frantic movement, but she is worrying sometimes. Hurrah for heart monitor though, one assumes that frantic (distressed) movement would result in an increased heartrate.

I have been rather uncomfortable while away due to a hard bed, hard sofa and lack of bath, but returning to all of the above has made me fine again.

School back tomorrow = school run ugh, but empty days. I am actually rather sad as we've had lovely times together over the summer and I'll miss swimming etc. I may go myself, but probably won't. We could go after school I guess.

Six weeks today baby is due to be delivered and so far we have nowhere to put her. Space needs made and all the equipment placed in situ. Panic! Or not, it's all manageable.

Midwife tomorrow, I expect no excitement. Nothing much has changed, I feel fine.

Boing boing goes the baby

Baby has surpassed all previous records of movement. Methinks she had a foot stuck or something as she wriggled and kicked and jiggled something rotten for about an hour - 3 till 4am incidentally - and then there was like a "ping", something flew across the inside of my uterus, then calm was restored. Today she is her usual bouncy self.

Hubby returns today, I am so very happy. Holidays tomorrow, no time to fret and have paranoid panic.

Navel displacement

My bellybutton has moved!! I have the dent where my navel is located, but the actual nub is a little off to the side. 2 bellybuttons! I did try to take a pic, but ugh.

Missing hubby awfully today. He's not back tomorrow either, it's the next day, and he's to go back next week. I do not know how single mothers do it, although I guess you'd have alternative support. I am very lucky as the alternative support is there should I need to call on it, but I don't usually need to. I do admire women who can constantly manage children on their own, I am acutely aware of not being able to nip out - for bread or similar, I have no need for the pub - unless I take them. Normally I just need to wait till hubby gets home and then it's ok. Also, I got a wave of sadness earlier when I remembered he wasn't coming back tonight, how awful that must be to be abandoned or bereaved and have to remember that it's for every night.

I don't like the glimpse into life without him though, I hope that is not a reality until we are very very very old and ideally I have no idea or have gone first (by a day or so, I don't wish loneliness on him to alleviate my own fears).

Baby was more restful today. Heartbeat good and clear and movements were sufficient to allay concerns. Pelvis was sorer today, baby must be lower as I'm not very heartburny. She also (I think) has periodic hiccups. Which are weird. O hiccupped his way through the last few weeks of pregnancy and into his first few weeks of life. Baby is shaping up to be a mini-O.

Which is ok, he's lovely.

Up and down.

I seem to have noticed a pattern. When my pelvis hurts a lot, my ribs don't. When my ribs hurt a lot, my pelvis is eased. The rib pain is actually more uncomfortable as it is accompanied by severe indigestion, and doesn't go away whatever I do. Although the pelvis pain is much worse, I have means to relieve that and if I don't have to walk anywhere, I'm ok.

Anyways, I assume baby is shifting higher and lower, or turning, or something, which is what affects the location of the discomfort. She is still about half the size she will be at term, so I guess I'll be mighty sore by then, possibly high and low simultaneously. Oh, the joys.

I may add that any relief of the pelvic pain vanishes upon leaving the house and doing any walking at all. Very sore again, and walking is still sore on an indigestion day even if sitting is easier.

I'm still big, as I was told today. $$>>€}^]€\!}+~!!! Why comment? What's the point of saying it again and again? Does it mean, oh you must be further on, or oh you are a fatto, or oh you must be having a massive baby???? I've been consistently the same amount big and it's really doing my head in whenever anyone says. I'm not abnormally big - like I was with the twins. I'm not fat anywhere else, you get a LOT of fat arses in the third trimester. So, comments are pointless. There is a range of ok, and I am within it. Today's was at the end of a discussion/monologue from me as to why I want a caesarean, ending with "you are big though" from chief big bump watcher, so I'm not sure if that was a reference to the unlikelihood of elephantine child fitting through my waif-like* pelvis or not.

*I wasn't skinny btw, I was about 2lb over the normal weight range. Not exactly vast, but not skinny. I stopped dieting when I was 7lb within the range, then put on 9lb over the next year and a bit.

On the caesarean thing, I am feeling a little narked at the insinuation that only childbirth is real pain. In an obtuse way I almost want to feel it so I can say, actual that is, or isn't, akin to needing two years of tramadol for a neck injury or the shooting pain of toothache. There's something awful about pain that's present day after day after day after day and labour is short lived, even a ridiculously long labour is a few days.

I fully sympathise with men, although they are wusses. My hubby had a kidney infection last year and was howling in pain, convinced he was dying. He whimpered to me, UTI veteran, "is this what you have?" to which the answer is yes, frequently. I still maintain an abscess in my tooth was the sorest thing I have ever experienced, more than the neck or the pelvis or any kidney infection. I'd like to see the "childbirth" brigade talk to an injured soldier. Huh.

Thats me all ranted out.

32 weeks tomorrow, week 33 awaits and we are so nearly there.

AIEEEEEEE!!! I HAVE SO MUCH TO DO!!!!

Note: dissertation abandoned. Stress related, I hope to submit at a later date. I will hear back next week.

Wriggle and jiggles and tickles inside

They tell me that movements will be less and less now as baby sleeps more and has less room to move. Yes, baby has less room, no baby doesn't move less. Baby just moves me too. She hasn't read the books.

O never slowed down his foetal movements, and it was about this stage he started the hiccups that lasted until after he was born. O is a very active child.

Baby has indeed had a most hyperactive day, almost all day. She does seem to sleep when I do so if that continues after birth, hurrah!

In true form, after declaring my pelvis to be a bit better, it's been damned sore today and I haven't left the house.

Hubby is to be away on business most of next week and the week after. This makes me a little twitchy. I don't expect anything to happen, but I'd rather he wasn't a flight away if it did. Besides, I've never been away from him for three nights since before we were married. It's good for his career, and peace for my final dissertation week, but :-(

Had my fill of relatives today, want to move far far away. If business continues down south, I'll cheerfully up sticks.

After baby is born. Baby will be Scottish; a Fifer, but still a Scot.

The lost one

I definitely typed a blog earlier. Where is it? Did I email it to someone random? Is it gone? Did I imagine it? Worrying.

We shall assume I typed it and didn't save it. Otherwise *we* shall go mad.

Today's swimming was less good: less relieving and more painful after. Boo. Obviously not a daily activity, maybe a twice weekly one instead. Next week the boys have swimming lessons each morning so we probably won't be doing any additional swimming.

Today's midwife check was fine, blood pressure (now to be checked fortnightly) is still normal. I had bloods taken to check for anaemia, glucose levels and antibodies. Otherwise all good: urine is clear, no swelling, nothing unusual other than the pelvic restrictions and bump is measuring a little bigger than it should but within normal limits. A little over a week's measurement ahead, which isn't as much as before and can probably be attributed to my lack of eating due to toothache. Previous big bump would then be down to excess eating. Shockeronie.

The midwife felt my bump and was assured that she felt a bum at the top. She felt down low and said that was a head also. This is good news; even with a caesarean head down is best as it is always good to deliver the head first. But having lain in a room prior to my twins' birth with several midwives and an obstetrician unable to decide if they could feel a head or a bottom (it was a bottom despite several plumping for head), I take all this with a pinch of salt. Also, really? Nothing bottom like to my touch, although admittedly my midwifery training is nil. I presume her to be head down when the majority of the kicks are upwards as I'm assuming the vicious kicks are from the legs and the gentler ones are punchy hands. I can discern feet when they push against my bump, everything else is a bit of a mystery.

Movement is peaking again. Constant jiggling from teatime till sleeptime. The latter being less like 4am and more like 1am which is good, there is hope for normality.

Dissertation due one month today. I must get on. I was doing well last week, this week the toothache has knocked me for six. 4 weeks, 2500 words a week. No bother...

Withdrawal

Well, baby seemed to like the codeine. No need for pain relief yesterday - hurrah! - as my jaw is recovering well from the extraction and the tooth of pain is out. But baby didn't seem to appreciate this, she'd been quite content and kicky with the pills, and without the pills she was positively manic for several hours. Addicted so quickly...

I jest.

Part of her excessive movements were in response to her father's excessive snoring. This has happened before, every time he emits a large snore, I get a kick. Not that conducive to sleep, and an ominous image of sleeping with the pair of them in the same room; it is I who will need my own room when we move.

I ended up doing rather a lot of fruitless to-ing and fro-ing yesterday which meant I was very sore. Walking is getting less and less ok, even with crutches. Although that is presumably at least in part due to my ever decreasing levels of fitness.

As I have undertaken to take the boys swimming today, last night required a feat of depilation. Upper thighs and bikini line are easier just ignored at present to be honest. All done though, I think, I can't actually see.

They say swimming (aka existing in the swimming pool as opposed to doing anything energetic) is brilliant when pregnant as the water supports the bump. I haven't tried it before with a bump so this could be a whole new blissful experience. Or not.

Extracted

The tooth is gone! I'm so happy, even if my face feels a little battered. I now have no wisdom teeth, which doesn't sadden me in the slightest, all of them have been problematic.

Temporary fix of yesterday did not work, I was awake half the night in agony. Two and a bit months of pain and a codeine addicted baby did not appeal, so I called the dentist - they are now almost my best friends there - to ask what could be done. My dentist was on holiday but another offered to carry out the extraction and I gratefully accepted. Not a nice thing to have done but I am so relieved it's gone. Even if the pain persists for a while, in a week or two it will be better and that will be that. No more to-ing and fro-ing to the dentist with the extraction to look forward to after the birth. And the worry of having an infected tooth plus having to take painkillers can go. Even if I need co codamol for a fortnight, I won't need it close to the birth so she won't be born sluggish or dependent. On codeine, I assume for a little dependence on me.

Unless she arrives this week on which case she will be 90% codeine.

None of the above seems to have caused any foetal sluggishness anyway, movements have been frequent and definite. She seems to have moved into some position that doesn't agree with me, I cannot sit up all without assistance or undignified shuffling. This began after my bath, which I very nearly couldn't get out of. Urk!

Bump looks considerably bigger also. Much baby movement has taken place this evening, it's all
changed. Thankfully she has moved away from her exit point - a kicking point today - which is a relief. She now appears to be sleeping, which meant an emergency heartbeat check (fine) as I feel distinctly odd, which I shall presume to be codeine and/or facial trauma related.

A sleepy kick of reassurance from my daughter there.

I have now finished the thankfully unscathed Bumpalicious, and feel that I need to amend my possibly unfair comments. Denise van Outen's actual diary is interesting, and I like that she has a caesarean (due to the baby's lie) and doesn't succeed with breastfeeding, but has regrets about neither. She has a healthy baby and - hurrah - for her this is the most, in fact only, thing that matters. The diary is a very small part of the book though and the "experts" sections are annoying and frequently inaccurate. I couldn't keep reading their contributions so I skipped.

Oh dear, I do feel rather faint. This is not good. I think some sleep may help.

28 weeks

Well, baby has been reading the textbooks: as noted yesterday, starting this week the movements are less due to lack of space, but they are more like kicks than somersaults.

I noticed.

Today I was shouty, mad, depressed, tearful, ranty and thoroughly rubbish. There are a number of possible causes for this:

1) lack of sleep
2) pain
3) hormones
4) lack of nicotine
5) all of the above.

I'm not coping at the moment, or to be less dramatic, I'm feeling overwhelmed by it all. Too much to prepare for. Too much too contemplate. Too many ailments to cope with.

It is not possible for me to sit and marvel at my bump at the exclusion of all other activities and this is proving a problem. Having not done anything useful or left the house today, the pelvis is calmer. Yay.

Today was the start of the 29th week, or 28 weeks completed as seems to be conventional. As such, I have updates on all my baby tracker things. Baby's eyes are now open and susceptible to light and dark. So I've been shining a torch on my bump. A little response, not much, but she has been restful today (which means she's probably about to get active as I prepare to sleep).

I thought I might be leaking fluid today, but I'm not, so it must have have been a momentary lapse of bladder, which is udderly (heh) depressing.

Paranoia: someone I saw on Thursday has the cold. I do not want the cold. Grr to the cold. I am probably immune to it though, I must have had every strain of cold in existence by now.

Yes, I know. Literal I am rarely.

So that's me at 28 weeks on the eve of the last ever News of the World.

That's the big news. I might look back and care some day. Meh.

Changes

The baby bopping seems to have ceased, baby may have run out of room. The tomes do state that the period of most movement is between 24 and 28 weeks, and then it eases off.

Now, it is not that I am not experiencing movement. Not at all, for I would be a-panic if that were true. What I now get is a lot more like kicks, definite jerks of movement rather than the jiggling. Baby unfortunately appears to be lying in a transverse position, that is across my abdomen instead of head down as she should be by now.

Advantages to this would be confined to being further reason for a section, and the lack of engagement later on meaning my pelvis won't have to suffer the final onslaught of realignment. Which is something I worry about, given my current immobility.

I have been told twice in the last couple of days that I am looking good. I don't agree, but people are nice.

Thick glossy hair is a problem, there's way too much of it to do anything with and it's grown too fast so needs cut again.
Skin is clear now, that's nice, and I don't have swollen ankles or a vast posterior as is de rigeur for many mothers-to-be. But I do have a head of mental hair and must surely look tired.

Vastness seems less significant at this stage than it did just a couple of weeks ago. 22lb gained so far, which is what the books tell me is average. I am still lighter than I was before my weightloss in 2009. That's quite shocking. Right now I am also extraordinarily undainty in all movements.

I am a little obsessed with cleaning; if anything smells at all iffy it is being disinfected. Bathroom floor was today's target. I would guess this is nesting.

Pain of the old pelvis remains the same. New pain: I have a rotten wisdom tooth which needs xrayed but that can't be done till after the birth. Eating is difficult, but that's ok as I have chronic and severe heartburn now.

Oh what fun.

Can't sit, won't sit

Tonight on pelvis watch we learn that sitting down isn't so good any more.

Today I stayed in all day and spent a large part of it typing my dissertation, but it transpires sitting for prolonged periods even on a cushion results in a very painful pelvis. I'm not sure if I'm stiff after the weekend's exertions, if I've done some damage, if I've gotten worse or if I just have to get a new sitting arrangement for typing.

It's getting me down a bit now, not least because it's nearly 12 weeks till she's due to be delivered. Back is also very sore today, probably the pelvic connector point. I am now in bed and am unable to get comfortable at all. Currently I am sitting upright contemplating cushions and hot water bottles.

It doesn't help that at 7am this morning when hubby had departed for work and I was making the most of the child free house (they return from Granny's tomorrow), but baby had a kickathon demanding breakfast. She's normally quiet and still of a morning, but no. Not today. Kicky kicky almost all day. Don't get me wrong, I love feeling her kick, but sometimes it's a little disruptive. Having been awake since 7, I could really do with some z's now. Alas, no position is comfortable enough to sleep.

Back: not recommended and extraordinarily uncomfortable.
Front: not possible
Right side: painful and heartburn inducing
Left side: painful

Which leaves levitation or sitting up. The latter creates a problem as to what to do with my legs.

Aaaaaaargh.

Baby bopping

Admittedly, baby is an active foetus, which we'll pretend is not connected to my excess intake of sugar. Wriggling is a regular part of the day, and while it is one of the coolest things I have ever experienced, as she grows she can give a painful jab on occasion.

I have noted the following things spark baby activity:

1) Hunger. She does not like me being hungry. I can only assume my tummy rumbles quietly and disturbs her.

2) Eating. Baby has a post-feeding dance, presumably this is jigging along to digestive rhythms, together with blood sugar surges.

3) Bathing. Since very early days, I have had massive movements when in the bath. Timing, positioning and warmth would be my guesstimation as to causes.

4) Bowel movements. I would guess this is pretty disruptive to a living environment, but baby does do a definite post faecal workout.

5) Music. Baby dances to certain tunes. If I play music she will sooner or later start to gyrate. Top fun can be had playing with this.

And finally,

6) Random unconnected shoogling. Baby just likes to boogie sometimes.

The movements are meant to slow down after 28 weeks due ti space and the lack thereof. I'll find that rather sad, but it does move us closer to the day we can start having real cuddles.

Still sitting (mostly)

I CAN'T WALK!!!

Ok, that's not true. I can, and with crutches it doesn't actually hurt. I feel a bit like the crutches are no good and I'm waving them about pointlessly, but the pain doesn't come and I can feel a lot of pressure in my arms, so I guess all that pressure isn't on my pelvis. There's certainly a big difference if I go from leaning on the crutches to not leaning on them; I can feel the pressure transfer through to my feet, obviously passing via the pelvis.

It's hard work though and I feel sooooo self conscious. And not being able to carry things is a pest. I had a jacket on today on the way to the school, which I removed and tied round my waist only to have it drop off seconds later. Picking up is not my forte at the moment so much grr-ing was required.

People are very sympathetic to me-with-crutches, which I find very embarrassing. Nope, there is no pleasing me. Lack of sympathy annoys; sympathy embarrasses. I know that people do care and the lack of attention is because I appear/claim to be capable, and I am aware of appearing very incapable. But it is nice how caring people actually are. In my ungrateful moments I think - but never say - "what do you think I've been on about the last couple of months???" when asked what I've done to myself. Pelvis no worky. I definitely mentioned it to, erm, everyone.

So. Other pregnancy things.

Gestation: 26+5
Movement: lots and lots
Other symptoms: indigestion, stingy boobies, a very large abdomen, and that is all.

The movements are amazing. I can't get enough of them. It makes me wonder in amazement that there is actually a human being inside there, that will soon be out and growing up and being a proper little person. From a few tiny cells inside of me, to a person.

I do feel quite astonished when I look at my huge five year olds and struggle to imagine how they ever were two foetuses side by side in my abdomen. And the whole thing just happens, because we copulated at the right times there are three new people. All I've done is not break them.

Shut up, pessimistic "yet".

Immobility and getting maudlin

Oh dear. Moving is becoming more and more difficult. I couldn't face walking to work today after another more or less sleepless night, so I didn't go. Pain in my pelvis - front and back - made even sitting sore today.

I had a visit to the midwife today, all is well with baby and mother aside from the pelvis. BP is fine, urine is clear, heartbeat of baby is present and normal. Next visit they check my blood for haemoglobin and glucose and what not, as I'll be into trimester 3 and all set for gestational diabetes, anaemia and elevated BP.

The midwife (my own assigned midwife, who I like) was very sympathetic about my pelvis and gave me the contact number for the obstetric physio and a reflexologist. On the latter, I am sceptical about such things but it won't do any harm, isn't taking any herby tinctures and to be honest I'm prepared to give anything a shot it if helps. I am also advised to try aqua natal or generally being in a pool. Walking not swimming though, so the boys and I may spend some time at the pool during the summer holidays.

I'm not entirely sure my spouse, friends, other relatives and especially my colleagues are all that impressed - or sympathetic - about how feeble I'm being. I shall not dwell on this as I'm teetering on the brink of feeling very sorry for myself. Again.

So I'll watch my jiggling tummy for a while and remind myself what it's all about. If that fails I'll look at pink baby clothes and Disney princess films.

Pain and Luncheoning

Lunch out for a second time in as many days!! What luxury!

A nasty moment this morning when it was suggested that bananas should be avoided in pregnancy.

What???!!!!$**^|!?

But it is ok. They are good. They are recommended, they are indeed a pregnancy superfood. Phew! I bought a bunch to celebrate, being as I was down to the last banana in the house.

I am told I am more pleasant in this pregnancy than my previous one. I don't entirely agree, I don't seem to be being very pleasant, but I was in a good mood today, at least in part because of having lunch with my friends two days in a row. Also lunchtime equals awakeness and I quite probably subjected my poor friends to evening grumpiness before. Who knows? I am feeling mellow and contented right now, which is nice.

I should be happy today anyway, it is the happiest day of the year, according to some boffinery. Although there's some logic about summer weather and holiday plans, neither of which apply here.

I do have impending maternity leave in THREE WEEKS. Well, five weeks, but I finish work 3 weeks today. Wooo!

Due to bad planning, I got a lift to the school in a two seater car, so we had to walk back. I cannot now do that one mile walk at all, it was almost unbearably sore. I'm almost at the point of not being able to walk anywhere. Yikes. At least I am vindicated in my decision to drive the one mile each day, something I am normally opposed to.

The boys have been given a DVD to watch and a DS to play so I can lie in a warm bath, which is about the only sure way to alleviate the pain.

Warm?? Ha. It's fairly hot or it would be pointless. My logic in this piece of advice ignoring is that I never have baths so hot that my temperature rises, nor so that my skin goes pink. Hot tubs are a no-no as they maintain the temperature whereas as regular bath cools fast enough to be safe for pregnant mommas.

And I had baths all the way through with the twins and everyone *knows* if you survive something one time it is therefore safe.

I like baths, I do. Not least because baby is very active in the bath, and has been since very early weeks. Which I am told is not possible but I know what I felt and it was at the same time I feel definite kicks. She's a wriggly un all right, so it's possible. I like seeing my belly undulate with baby jiving.

The weather did somewhat defeat me today. Glorious sunshine first thing meant I got dressed in a summer maxi dress and sandals, because the dress doesn't go with the other one pair of shoes I can wear just now. Checking of the weather report - after dressing - revealed that it was to rain all day. Now, getting dressed is no mean feat these days so changing was not an option. Instead I looked utterly insane with aforementioned attire, plus a raincoat and brolly. Itty bitty sandals not good for rain, floaty dress bit odd with coat.

Well, if you're not allowed to look a bit mad when you're pregnant...
