32 weeks today! Hurrah!
And I hurt. A lot. In the just below the rib area, periodically tightening and being very very sore.
I don't think this is a sign of anything labourlike, I assume this is big time Braxton Hicks, but owwwwww!! But I also have backache and a touch of the runs, so I've been looking up "premature labour" and "survival at 32 weeks". Ahem.
I think I'd be more sore if it was the real thing, although I do believe it starts mildly.
Ow. Owwww. Owwwwwwwww!
Baby seems to be twisting and turning a lot. She was distinctly sideways earlier, which hurt my sides, now she seems to be shifting again. Ow. I have hard knee like parts sticking out of my belly.
Oh ow. It hurts again. I'm sure this isn't it, it's too early and not sore enough as per the childbirth experts, but I'm not entirely sure if I will get any sleep. Ow.
Reasons why it's almost certainly not labour:
1) I'm only 32 weeks
2) I carried twins to term. They are meant to come early
3) I'm not screaming.
4) I don't smoke
5) I don't drink
6) I'm not obese or underweight
7) I'm not malnourished
However,
1) It hurts
2) I do/did have gum disease
3) I have a lot of aspartame on a daily basis
(both these things apparently contribute to premature delivery)
4) Backache+runs+v sore hardening uterus could mean it is it.
I don't want her to come yet. The thought of her being in hospital and not in me or with me is awful. She would almost certainly be ok after a stay in hospital if she was born now, but I really don't want her to be out of me and in an incubator. I wish to incubate her myself for a while yet.
Besides, hubby is all set for his business trip next week (which he obvs would cancel in light of birthing taking place) and we're to be going away next weekend. Irrelevant in the face of healthy baby, but still, timing not good. In three weeks time it'd be ok, five weeks would be absolutely fine. And not coming till she's meant to would be best, if painful in the meantime.
I'm being paranoid, I know I am, but it is alarming. I get very very sore, then not sore at all. Then a short time later, sore again. Braxton Hicks or baby athletics. I'm sure. Sure I'm sure.
This is a vague record of my second pregnancy and being a mother to three children. It is nothing more, if you're not interested in pregnancy and parenting then this will make for extremely boring reading fodder.

To tolerate or not to tolerate
I'm finding people difficult.
I seem to have differing parenting views to everyone else, but if I try and express that it comes across as very smug and rude. Thoughts that involve "rod" and "own back" pass through my brain a lot when discovering what people do. Examples not forthcoming as I don't want to cause offence. Just in case.
I'm also finding people's attitude to what's going on in the news irritating. Who cares what tabloid journalists do? If a young girl dies from drug abuse, that's sad, it doesn't mean I liked her music. If lots of youths get gunned down in Oslo shouldn't we be saddened a lot more than by the two previous issues?
Gah.
Pregnancy related stuff: sore sore sore, had lunch out today and found it nearly impossible to walk after sitting for an hour tops. Oh grand. So lunch is out as well as dinner, until such time as I have a new companion wherever I go.
I am concerned that I'm lacking amniotic fluid. There doesn't seem to be much there. Midwife on Friday. I shall have to remember to mention it.
Foetal movement was frequent through the night and most of today. Heart rate remains constant. I wish I had an upcoming scan for reassurance, there's nothing obviously wrong, I've just got to that stage where I'm worrying. It's been 10 weeks since my last scan, I've got 10 weeks to go. Middle ground, panic time. I may just book a 3d one. I probably won't.
Actually, although I have almost 10 weeks to go, she is hopefully to be delivered 9 weeks today!!
Ouchie. It hurts to move. I just adjusted my position from lying down to lying down a little differently and owwww. That hurt!
Bump hurts. Pelvis hurts. Calves hurt. Hurt hurt hurt. And people are annoying, damn them.

Overdone
Ooh, ow. My day of normality and doing stuff yesterday meant today was a write off. Had to get up relatively early due to pelvis hurting however I lay. Found sitting in my usual recovery position of cushion-on-chair with cushion-on-footstool was not working, so took two co codamol and had a warm bath. This helped some, but I have been mostly unable to move much all the rest of the day. Bizarrely, it got bearable, then I whipped some cream using an electric whisk and this set me back again. Not sure what happened there!
So, a most uneventful day. It was nice to be interactive and not lug about the crutches yesterday, but I guess there's a lesson to be learnt there...
The boys are very sweet about their sister. O likes talking to the bump and telling her what's happening, especially if his brother has been naughty. R is less interested, but mid rant he declared that although he hated everyone, he still liked her. He was very interested in the early days, but I think it has been too long (tell me about it!!) and also he is rather frustrated by my limitations. R will resume interest when there is a baby rather than a bump I think, although I still fear that they will be rather disappointed by just how little a newborn actually can do. Still, babies get better and better and more fun, until they reach the terrible twos that is, which seems to be any time between 18 months and 3 years of age.
It is strange to think of my babies as big brothers.

Extracted
The tooth is gone! I'm so happy, even if my face feels a little battered. I now have no wisdom teeth, which doesn't sadden me in the slightest, all of them have been problematic.
Temporary fix of yesterday did not work, I was awake half the night in agony. Two and a bit months of pain and a codeine addicted baby did not appeal, so I called the dentist - they are now almost my best friends there - to ask what could be done. My dentist was on holiday but another offered to carry out the extraction and I gratefully accepted. Not a nice thing to have done but I am so relieved it's gone. Even if the pain persists for a while, in a week or two it will be better and that will be that. No more to-ing and fro-ing to the dentist with the extraction to look forward to after the birth. And the worry of having an infected tooth plus having to take painkillers can go. Even if I need co codamol for a fortnight, I won't need it close to the birth so she won't be born sluggish or dependent. On codeine, I assume for a little dependence on me.
Unless she arrives this week on which case she will be 90% codeine.
None of the above seems to have caused any foetal sluggishness anyway, movements have been frequent and definite. She seems to have moved into some position that doesn't agree with me, I cannot sit up all without assistance or undignified shuffling. This began after my bath, which I very nearly couldn't get out of. Urk!
Bump looks considerably bigger also. Much baby movement has taken place this evening, it's all
changed. Thankfully she has moved away from her exit point - a kicking point today - which is a relief. She now appears to be sleeping, which meant an emergency heartbeat check (fine) as I feel distinctly odd, which I shall presume to be codeine and/or facial trauma related.
A sleepy kick of reassurance from my daughter there.
I have now finished the thankfully unscathed Bumpalicious, and feel that I need to amend my possibly unfair comments. Denise van Outen's actual diary is interesting, and I like that she has a caesarean (due to the baby's lie) and doesn't succeed with breastfeeding, but has regrets about neither. She has a healthy baby and - hurrah - for her this is the most, in fact only, thing that matters. The diary is a very small part of the book though and the "experts" sections are annoying and frequently inaccurate. I couldn't keep reading their contributions so I skipped.
Oh dear, I do feel rather faint. This is not good. I think some sleep may help.

Diversion
Tooth very very sore.
Things I have discovered as a result:
1) co codamol does work in low doses and I am assured it's ok for baby. Possibly not near birth, but we're not (hopefully).
2) people are v unsympathetic to toothache. I still think it's the most acutely sore, unliveable-with pain I have ever had, and I'm no stranger to pain. This does not make me a wuss, it makes the toothache sore. Yes, contained, yes managed by painkillers. No, not insignificant.
3) I should probably have the tooth out as the temporary fix obviously aint gonna work.
Baby was rather unresponsive by night, worryingly, but has been a-kicking a lot by day. All seems well and I may be causing a sedative effect with the co codamol. Oh, more worry...
Nesting is a problem. I keep being disgusted by things and going at them. Which is good, if needs done, but I hurt myself doing it. Bonkers pain hurts after the activity, so you forget. Normal pain hurts and stops you doing it, not PGP. Dammit.
In the last few days I have scrubbed and dettoled the bathroom floor, cleaned out the freezer, sorted out and cleared everyone's clothes (lots for charity, lots for loft) and I can't not. The house is manky so as I say, it's a good thing really, but I do need to remember my limits.
Early to bed tonight I think, 3 hours max last night due to tooth, worry and indigestion was not sufficient.

Can't sit, won't sit
Tonight on pelvis watch we learn that sitting down isn't so good any more.
Today I stayed in all day and spent a large part of it typing my dissertation, but it transpires sitting for prolonged periods even on a cushion results in a very painful pelvis. I'm not sure if I'm stiff after the weekend's exertions, if I've done some damage, if I've gotten worse or if I just have to get a new sitting arrangement for typing.
It's getting me down a bit now, not least because it's nearly 12 weeks till she's due to be delivered. Back is also very sore today, probably the pelvic connector point. I am now in bed and am unable to get comfortable at all. Currently I am sitting upright contemplating cushions and hot water bottles.
It doesn't help that at 7am this morning when hubby had departed for work and I was making the most of the child free house (they return from Granny's tomorrow), but baby had a kickathon demanding breakfast. She's normally quiet and still of a morning, but no. Not today. Kicky kicky almost all day. Don't get me wrong, I love feeling her kick, but sometimes it's a little disruptive. Having been awake since 7, I could really do with some z's now. Alas, no position is comfortable enough to sleep.
Back: not recommended and extraordinarily uncomfortable.
Front: not possible
Right side: painful and heartburn inducing
Left side: painful
Which leaves levitation or sitting up. The latter creates a problem as to what to do with my legs.
Aaaaaaargh.

Miracle baby
I'm not entirely sure pregnancy is ever touted as a cure for maladies but this baby has so far cured my various ailments. It does remain to be seen whether the recovery persists when the baby has been born, but to date the baby, or the hormones connected to her existence, have "fixed" the following:
1) my whiplash. In April 2009 I was in a minor car accident that resulted in persistent severe pain in my neck. As little as two weeks prior to knowing I was pregnant, I was unable to reduce my maximum dose of tramadol at all. Movement in my neck was limited through pain. On discovering I was pregnant, I tried to wean myself off the drugs. I didn't take one until I needed one, until I noticed I hadn't taken one all day. Or the next. Or the next. And still my neck is like it was before. Normal. It gets a little achey on occasion but no more than that. I can assume it was ligament related and the relaxin has loosened the tautness caused by the accident and allowed the ligaments to return to normal.
2) vegetarianism. In the last three years I started off a fully signed up carnivore, then a complete non-meat eater (I am loathe to say vegetarian for fear of being lynched as I did eat jelly babies). I then returned to eating poultry and so that remained until I was pregnant. I don't eat fish partially for ethical reasons (I have to remind myself that smoked salmon and scallops are fish) but now I am enjoying red meat again.
3) I had some sort of skanky nail thing which resulted in a couple of my fingernails almost entirely falling off. I had a paint on solution that I was to apply for the nine months it takes to regrow an entire nail. Or, apply for a couple of months then stop applying in case of detrimental effect on baby and lo and behold, full nails a month later.
I am trusting fully that none of the above will return post partum in light of departing hormones. I am also trusting that the pelvis will return to normal fairly swiftly and that such things as bending will be possible again. And I should be, like, normal. Woo.
Once I've recovered from the birth and my pelvis returns to form that is. 2012 will be the year of good health and no debilitating conditions. It will.
While still dealing with the pregnancy induced pain, my parents brought me a "helpful hand" grabber which is ace. I think I'd be utterly depressed if I needed one permanently, but for convenience and just a couple of months, it's kinda useful.
Baby still v active, I amused myself for a while earlier by placing a small stuffed lizard on my bump and watching it twitch in time with kicks. I love that, I could interact with a kicky bump all day.
Return to work dependent on sleep. No napping all day should at least provide tiredness. Indigestion could provide wakefulness. We'll see. If I can't make it to work I think I'll have to get signed off properly. I don't really want to do that, but if I can't cope, I can't cope.

All hail bananas!
No more mad leg!! Bananas save the day!
Well, one banana, but I fully intend to keep up the banana intake, I hadn't had so many after the nausea faded.
Pelvis is poor to failing, walking is extraordinarily sore. Today I had lunch with a friend and apparently sitting still for that amount of time is detrimental to pained pelvises. Ouchie central when we left the restaurant and the pain has only been alleviated by sitting very still on my cushioned seat with a cushioned footstool. And a co-codamol which I understand is ok to take sparingly until trimester 3. So here's hoping the pain has gone by next week! Err...
Movement from within the uterus is good today. My comfy cushioned chair can rock a bit and if I rock, I get super enthusiastic kicks. Whether they are kicks of enjoyment or "hey mama, quit with the turbulence" I'm not sure. It's kinda cool though.
So tired. Sleep is proving elusive and there's a new element of waking up far too early.
If I can blame baby for the wakefulness, she's on schedule to be wide awake at 10pm, 2am and 6am, which does at least miss out 3am or 4am - the hours at which it is most difficult to be awake.
4pm isn't proving so easy today, I'm going to have to sign off now...

And ow again
I was doing ok. This week the boys and I were only at school/work for three days and for those three days daddy took the boys up to school. I have walked only to work and back and all other journeying has been by car (I excuse myself, it hurts a lot). And my pelvis has been ok.
Today I didn't leave the house, but I did do rather a lot of bending and tidying and general getting up and down to do things and I am very, very sore. Which is a right pest.
I foolishly said "yes" when the class teacher asked me if I could help walk the kids up to the museum on Tuesday. Which is approximately three times as far as I am able. Walking is not my strong point, yet the words coming out of my mouth were "sure, count me in!" not "sorry, I can't help". So I'm going to have to send a note in to apologetically renege, and hide for the rest of the school year. It's only three weeks. And, of course, the subsequent 12 years that I will have children in that school. Hmm. I can't put myself in a position of pain just to be nice though.
Boy am I sore tonight. A bath is my only respite. I'm still ecstatic to manage baths however. Miracle baby.
On a happier note: today baby is viable, being as we are at 24 weeks. One of my many pregnancy updates said it was now trimester 3 but it's not. 3 lots of 12 weeks only adds up to 36 weeks. I'd guess it's 24 weeks after conception, so 26 weeks, or week 27 if you like, before we're actually into trimester nĂºmero tre. Middle trimester still we are.
Not very viable, I think she would have a 10% chance of survival if she were to be born now, and some time to be spend in hospital. But she would have a chance of survival which is good to know.
I don't want her to come early. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to not be pregnant any more (and have her here to cuddle), but I don't want her to have to face problems from the start and have a long struggle with her in hospital. That must be diabolical. I want her to arrive on September 26 when they take her out at 39 weeks and 2 days.
Besides, I've got maternity leave to enjoy sans baby first, before I have the glorious long leave with baby.

First guilt trip, I had a complete paddy today. Full on she's lost her mind tantrum. Oops. It was in reaction to an overreaction of something so utterly trivial combined with complete lack of sympathy to my pain. I shrieked, I cried, I slammed. I made my children cry at my noise. I am ashamed.
Second guilt trip. I am a bad advocate for mothering. I have twice commented on a blog this last week to a new mother. First to profess the joys of caesarean birth - not scary, not bed riding for a fortnight - and today to encourage the use of formula.
Really, I should be shot. My opinion, yay, but probably best not shared as it doesn't toe the natural party line.
To be fair on myself, my stance on both issues are not "they are better" but more "do not beat yourself up if they happen".
Purchases arrived today: 2 pairs of maternity pyjamas and a maternity vest top. Maternity wear makes the bump look much more advanced than oversized wear which drapes. Maternity wear clings. Comfy though and there's no exposed udders.
Pain level lessened by not leaving the house and so not walking more than the length of the hall. On most days this is not a practicable solution but on a day off it's a relief. If immensely frustrating. One of the most painful things I have done today, which I have needed to do approximately once an hour, is go to the toilet. It's not the going that hurts - thankfully - it's the sitting down on, and getting up from, the toilet that's tricky. Hence the bad mood.
It has cooled down again which means two things: I can shut the window and the tools haven't been drinking in the sun all day. So a peaceful night may ensue.
And as if by magic, a car alarm starts...

Difficulties
Oh dear. Activities would seem to be limited. Walking is now very painful. I can still walk, but it hurts. Bending is impossible, it doesn't happen. I can't bend down or lean forward when sitting. This is not good. Standing still hurts now.
What doesn't hurt: lying in the bath, assuming I have a neck pillow so I don't put weight on my back or lying in a similar propped up position in bed. Left side with pillow allows for sleep but isn't comfortable, and sitting with my feet up and lots of cushions helps a bit, but then my legs start to hurt.
I feel very feeble. As doing the minimum required seems to be beyond me, I somehow need to do less than is required.
I'm only 23 weeks. I've got another 16 weeks and 3 days to cook. As I most definitely want to fully cook my baby, I don't want to send out mistaken wishes, but boy do I wish we could fast forward to 26 September!!
Sigh. It takes a long time to make a human being.

Nuh uh
Today was painful. Very much so. I never thought I'd long for being able to take tramadol!!
Walk to school: ok. Walk back from school: not ok. Continuation of journey to work: excruciating. Number of minutes taken to do above more than normal: 15.
It sure hurts to move. I fear a situation whereby moving doesn't feature heavily in my day is imminent. 7 more weeks till I come off on maternity leave - can I make it? Maybe a few days rest would cure enough to carry on.
Maybe. You know where I'm going with this...
